Our Tea's Quality Control
It's always a headache for a tea supplier to offer the same quality tea all the year round, as tea's quality will vary from batch by batch. Even for the same tea master, he can not reproduce the same tea in different harvest season. Besides, because most tea growers in Taiwan only possess small tea farms, tea output from each harvest season is usually very limited, sometimes after you get some premium teas and would like to buy more they were out of stock yet. Therefore, tea is always regarded as an agricultural product in Taiwan, that is to say, its quality and price may differ in a big range according to tea's growing status in each harvest season. In general, people will not buy a tea before trying samples if it's from different crop/batch that they have never tried.
We've been thinking how to make natural tea (from agricultural product) become a commodity for years, that is to say, when people recognize a tea with our brand (for example TC's Alishan oolong), they can expect to its quality. How to make it happen for natural tea (not flavors)?
We have worked with a tea professional who helped us to make it happen via following methods:
1) Widely and well select tea from the same harvest season (like 2009 winter). You'll get several premium teas of the same tea variety (like Jin-Xuan oolong) from different tea farms after selection. Well mix these teas from different tea farms in the same harvest season to get an average premium quality. We only select it from the best harvest seasons (winter, spring).
2) We get enough tea stock with average premium quality due to well mix it from several well-selected batches. If we only offer tea from specific small batch, we may run out of stock before next best harvest season is coming. In that case, People will get different quality tea with our brand from different batch due to last batch is sold out. The tea's quality from new batch could be better or could be worse. People will lose trust of our tea due to instable quality.
3) In next best harvest season, we select tea and mix it to get almost the same quality tea by means of comparing our stock from last harvest season.
4) We store all teas in refrigerators to prolong its freshness until next best harvest season is coming.
Through above methods, people will always get almost the same quality tea from us all the year round. And, that's the way we build our brand for Formosa tea.
